Marco Grael and Gabriel Simões won the 15th race of the 49er class in the French Olympic sailing week held in Hyères, France, on Thursday (25) and secured one of the four spots offered by the competition for the next edition of the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris, France.
In the event, the Brazilian pair scored 89 points in 15 races, winning three races and finishing second in two others. Marco and Gabriel placed Brazil in third overall, behind only the leader Germany and second-placed Belgium, and they cannot lose the spot for the Paris Games even though the medal race is still pending, scheduled for Friday (26).
“I believe we achieved our goal [securing a spot for the Paris Games] by taking it step by step, simply believing in the process,” stated Gabriel Simões.
